Mission

Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) is a unique, independent, non-profit institute dedicated to the study of memory and finding solutions to memory disorders.

Our efforts are concentrated on molecular and structural events that record human memory in the brain.

  • BRNI research develops drugs that facilitate molecular signaling, which controls the functions that record our conscience experience.
  • Some of these same drugs have remarkable potential for rescuing degeneration from many of the major neurological disorders that affect our aging population, such as Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, head trauma and aging itself.
  • BRNI’s mission is further expanded to educate and integrate the entire universe of health care providers and social services through local outreach around diagnosis, treatment and impact of these traumatic diseases and disorders.

Memory is, in many ways, what makes us human. It is how we define ourselves, structure our lives, form our families and social organizations, and share and advance art, science, and technology.

Our Strategy

BRNI creates a uniquely effective blend of people and technology in an environment conducive to discovery. The Institute attracts internationally recognized scientists whose lifework centers on unraveling the mysteries of behavior, learning, and memory. The Institute applies advanced principles of molecular and cellular neurobiology to the study of Alzheimer’s disease. Our researchers have the tools to understand the cellular and molecular details of the complexities of brain function in both normal and disease conditions.

The Institute is characterized by a “translational science” approach, developed in recognition of the disconnect between basic science in laboratory settings and actual clinical treatments. This approach is intended to bridge the gap between fundamental research in memory processes and the development of products and treatments for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairments by actively promoting the development of important and novel discoveries.

The work of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute is part of the frontier that is 21st century human medicine.
